Each day involves canoeing past historic Gold Rush sites, navigating tranquil waters, and camping along remote shorelines. The expedition highlights Indigenous cultures and offers solitude in one of Earth’s most remote, breathtaking regions.

Program Overview

Embark on an epic 24-day wilderness adventure with World Bound Yukon, exploring the rugged beauty of the Yukon River and the Gulf Islands of British Columbia. Teens will canoe over 700 km through breathtaking landscapes, develop leadership skills, and engage with Indigenous knowledge keepers. This immersive experience fosters personal growth, environmental awareness, and lifelong friendships. From stargazing to wilderness cook-offs, World Bound Yukon offers an unforgettable journey through Canada’s pristine northern wilderness.

The Yukon is a land of untamed wilderness, where vast forests, towering mountains, and crystal-clear rivers stretch as far as the eye can see. Whitehorse, the capital, serves as the gateway to this remote region, offering access to the mighty Yukon River. With its pristine landscapes, abundant wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, the Yukon provides a perfect backdrop for outdoor adventure. Whether hiking, paddling, or stargazing, campers will experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Canada’s northern frontier.

World Bound Yukon provides a transformative wilderness experience, blending leadership development with environmental education. Campers will navigate the Yukon River on a 700 km canoe expedition, learning crucial outdoor skills like navigation, camp cooking, and wildlife tracking. Along the way, they’ll engage with Indigenous communities, participate in climate change education, and explore the rich history of the Klondike Gold Rush. With expert guidance, teens will build self-reliance, resilience, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Fireside Adventures' staff is a dedicated and tight-knit team of passionate educators, families, and youth led by founder Jeff Willis, who has over 30 years of experience in outdoor education across Canada, Japan, Germany, and more.
Inspired by a mission to combine environmental education with leadership and social justice, the team creates unique experiences fostering wonder, resilience, and personal growth.

Safety is our top priority at Fireside Adventures Yukon, ensuring all participants are well-prepared for wilderness conditions. Our guides are certified in first aid and wilderness survival, carrying essential emergency equipment, including satellite communication. Campers receive thorough safety briefings on canoeing, wildlife encounters, and navigation. Life jackets are mandatory on the water, and strict protocols are followed for fire safety and food storage. With expert supervision, teamwork, and preparedness, every adventure remains secure and enjoyable.

World Bound Yukon offers an authentic wilderness dining experience. Campers will prepare their own meals over campfires, learning to make hearty dishes like stews, bannock, and fish cooked fresh from Yukon rivers. Yukon’s traditional foods often include wild game such as moose or elk, as well as locally harvested berries. During the expedition, campers might also learn about foraging, incorporating fresh herbs and native plants into their meals. Expect a perfect mix of adventure and nutrition.

Novice 10-day (Teslin to Carmacks):
For youth new to canoe expeditions. We’ll start easy on the Teslin River, then paddle into the Yukon with some experience behind us.
Highlight: Explore Hootalinqua, home to a shipwrecked barge and the ruins of an old trading post.

Advanced 12-day (Carmacks to Dawson City):
For returning youth or those seeking a more challenging experience. We’ll cover more distance with a tighter schedule and visit Fort Selkirk and Dawson City for a Gold Rush adventure.
Highlight: Watch the White River’s cloudy waters mix with the clear Yukon River as you pass through their confluence.

Advanced+ Extended 18-day (Whitehorse/Teslin to Dawson City):
For youth looking for a physical challenge, ready to tackle Lake Laberge and dive deep into the adventure.
Highlight: Explore the impact of climate change on the Yukon’s ecosystem from multiple perspectives, including Indigenous, historical, and environmental.

The World Bound Yukon program offers a unique climate change curriculum centered on Indigenous knowledge and Western science. Through workshops on global citizenship, environmental awareness, and life skills, participants develop a holistic understanding of climate action. Activities like water treatment, recycling, and volunteering in communities emphasize sustainability. Exploring real-world environments along the Yukon River, campers practice leadership, team-building, and communication games, gaining practical skills while deepening their connection to the land and its challenges.
