Awesome Experience
“Doing this program was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It gives you so much hands-on knowledge and experience in a wide range of activities so there really is something for everyone, water sports, high ropes, logistics, and pretty much anything else you can think of. One of the highlights of this program for me was meeting and making friends with some amazing people with like-minded interests from all over the world, I'm hoping that these friendships last a lifetime. I wouldn't, however, call the program 'easy', a lot of the time it's challenging and exhausting, you're working long hours, with few breaks, constantly surrounded by other people, and sometimes very little time off. But despite this, the work is so much fun and so rewarding and everyone is in it together. I would 100% recommend this program for anyone who loves the outdoors, pushing their comfort zone, and working with kids. If I were to go back in time I would do the past 6 months all over again.”

Riotously Fun
“I was surprised at just how memorable it really could be. You are surrounded by young people who are all a similar energy, all so excited for the next adventure, there to have fun. I was struck by how many like minded people could be in one place.”

Questions
›Do Australians need a visa for a summer camp in Europe?
No, not for stays under 90 days, which covers every summer placement: you travel on your Australian passport. From 2027, visa-free travellers to Europe also need the online ETIAS travel authorization (about €20). For the 6-month Outdoor Education Diploma, Camp Europe arranges the volunteer permit.
›How much does a summer in Europe cost from Australia?
The flight is the big part: about €1,600 return (≈ A$2,560) booked 2 to 4 months ahead. Room, board and training are included, and at Camp Europe the camp pays you €75 every week. Over an 8-week summer you spend about €1,533 in total (≈ A$2,450), mostly the flight.
›Do I get paid?
Yes. On Camp Europe placements you pay a €75 pre-interview fee (€55 until 21 December), which is not refunded, and €300 to confirm. The camp pays you €75 every week: after the training week (unpaid), the first 4 weeks pay your deposit back, and from placement week 5 it is an extra weekly Transportation Cost Compensation (TCC), plus €150 TCC towards your travel.
›Do I need to speak German?
No. English is the working language at camp; another language is a plus, never a requirement.
›Who can apply, and when?
Anyone 19 or over (some placements ask for more). Applications are open from 1 November to 30 April.
›Which documents do I need?
A valid passport; a National Police Check less than 1 year old, issued specifically for working with children or the vulnerable sector (online printouts are not accepted); a first aid certificate (a one-day course if you do not have one) and travel medical insurance for your whole stay. Not sure which check to request? Message us before you order it.
›Does it fit around uni?
The European summer is June to August, over your mid-year break and beyond, so many Australians go on a gap year, a deferral or after graduating. Each placement shows its dates and length.
