Fireside’s Outdoor Education course gives participants the basic skills they need to co-lead canoe trips in the outdoors and become highly competitive candidates to be placed at diverse summer camps throughout British Columbia. This course is a great program to perform, either if you have minimal or no training in outdoor activities and camping, or even if you are looking to expand your knowledge and skills toolboox.

Certification obtained upon successful completion is composed by:

  • FWCC - Flat Water Canoe Certification.

  • OCE - Ocean Canoe Expedition through Sechelt Inlet.

 

The Diploma for completing the Residential Camping Course (RCC Diploma) includes:

Bonus: Indigenous Perspectives and Understanding Reconciliation - Workshop

  • Outdoor Survival Techniques and Outdoor Leadership including gear selection, orienteering, logistics, map reading, trip plans, fitness preparation, transportation and photography. Effective communications skills, Problem Solving.

  • WRM - Wilderness Risk Management including weather reading, emergency procedures, animal awareness, water treatment and basic first aid procedures.

  • Wilderness Cooking Lessons including food selection, cooking equipment, meal planning and keeping things clean.

Upon a succesful completion of the International Outdoor Experiential Education Training, the graduate will obtain direct access to one-on-one interviews with several (1-5) camp directors throughout British Columbia, in order to obtain a Weekly Paid Stipend during the placement.
