Motivation
I would be a great candidate to participate with ICN because I am a hard worker and always looking for ways to improve and try new things. Hence, why I am applying for this position with little experience related to it. I have worked a variety of different jobs, but I've always loved the idea of working in a summer camp and having a fun and challenging work environment. I'm a trustworthy person, and responsible, and I love to have the opportunity to lead a group.
Experience
I will be honest and say I have never been a camp counselor during the summer. During Spring 2022, I worked at the Concordia Language Villages in the Spanish camp in Bemidji, Minnesota on the weekends for their weekend programs. I was there for about 5 long weekends total and spoke completely in Spanish during my time there with co-workers from different Spanish-speaking countries. I created cultural activities to do with campers, assisted the other counselors with songs and mealtime activities, and helped the campers understand Spanish and learn more during their weekends at the camp. Another experience was a few years ago when I was a front desk receptionist/birthday party attendant at my local zoo in Fargo, North Dakota. In this position, I was always interacting with children for birthdays, on the carousel ride, and during major events days at the zoo such as ChalkFest, and Boo at the Zoo for Halloween. I always enjoy working with children because I love watching them learn something new and I'm always on my toes. I like to say I've always been a group leader, and enjoy helping people and showing them how things work, and leading by example.
Expectations
In regard to this program, I expect to be treated fairly and have open communication with my supervisor(s) and coworkers. I expect some flexibility in regard to scheduling for sickness, emergencies, etc, although I understand that summer camps function a bit differently than 9-5 jobs. I expect to be treated as a member of the team, have a fun summer, and always be learning something new.
